Hydraulic Flushing Trolley

Built for flow, not just filtration — 60 to 150 lpm at up to 28 bar, with two-stage 25 µm + 10 µm filtration and a sampling valve to ISO 4021 so a clean system can be proved and recorded.

What flushing does

Filtering needs a filter. Flushing needs flow.

Pipework, manifolds and reservoirs leave the fabrication shop carrying weld spatter, mill scale, swarf, thread sealant and dust. None of it comes out by filling the system and running it. It comes out by pushing oil through the pipework fast enough to lift settled debris off the bore wall and carry it to a filter.

Oil moving slowly runs in smooth layers and slides over debris without disturbing it. Only when the flow becomes turbulent does it scour the wall. The FLT series is built for that duty: enough flow to reach turbulence in the bore being cleaned, enough pressure to push through the system's own valves and coolers, and two filter stages to hold what comes loose.

Where it is used

  • Flushing newly erected pipework before commissioning
  • Cleaning a system after a pump or valve failure has shed debris
  • Flushing after a major overhaul or pipe modification
  • Flushing power packs, manifolds and coolers on the bench
  • Bulk transfer and filtration between flushing jobs
  • Hydraulic, gear, lube and turbine oils

Common to all three models

  • Two-stage filtration — stage 1 at 25 µm, stage 2 at 10 µm, glass fibre; element bypass 3.5 bar
  • Differential clogging indicator on each stage (visual, three-band)
  • Full-flow relief valve set at 30 bar, discharging to pump suction
  • Sampling valve on the return line, to ISO 4021 — sample under flow
  • Instrumentation — delivery gauge 0–40 bar + pump-suction vacuum gauge
  • Pump — external gear, cast iron, continuous duty at 28 bar; fluids −10 °C to +80 °C

The unit has no tank and no heater — it draws from the system being flushed and returns to it. Hose set is 5 m suction / 10 m delivery as standard; delivery hose is wire-reinforced and rated not less than four times working pressure.

Sizing

How much flow a flush needs

Debris lifts only when flow in the pipe is turbulent (Reynolds number ~4000). Select on the largest bore to be flushed and the oil temperature — not on the reservoir size.

Flow (lpm) required for turbulent flow, Re 4000
Pipe boreOil at 20 cSt (~60 °C)Oil at 32 cSt (~45 °C)Oil at 46 cSt (~40 °C)
12 mm (~⅜")4572104
19 mm (~¾")72115165
25 mm (~1")94151217
32 mm (~1¼")121193277
38 mm (~1½")143229330

Temperature does most of the work: taking oil from 40 °C to 60 °C roughly halves the flow needed. Warm oil flushes; cold oil circulates. Working range on warm oil (20 cSt): FLT-60 up to ~16 mm bore, FLT-100 up to ~26 mm, FLT-150 up to ~40 mm. Above that, flush the circuit in sections.

Cleanliness targets

Sign the flush off against a number

Agree the ISO 4406 target in writing before the job starts, together with who samples, who tests, and what happens if the target is not met. Stop when two consecutive samples meet the target — not when the first one does.

Each unit is manufactured and tested against an approved QA plan and inspection & test plan — flow at rated pressure, relief setting, pressure hold & leak, differential indicators, insulation & earth continuity, two-hour run. Customer-witnessed or third-party inspection can be arranged at order stage.

Questions

Flushing trolley FAQ

How is flushing different from filtering?

Filtering needs a filter; flushing needs flow. Debris only lifts off a pipe wall when flow is turbulent. The FLT series delivers the flow to reach turbulence and a two-stage filter to hold what comes loose — a different duty from the filtration trolley.

Which model do I need?

Select on the largest bore to be flushed and the oil temperature, not the reservoir size. On warm oil: FLT-60 up to ~16 mm, FLT-100 up to ~26 mm, FLT-150 up to ~40 mm. Confirm bore and temperature and we'll confirm the model.

How do I prove the system is clean?

Each unit has a return-line sampling valve to ISO 4021. Sample under flow and stop when two consecutive samples meet the agreed ISO 4406 target.

Can it also filter and transfer oil between jobs?

Yes — bulk transfer and filtration between flushing jobs is a listed use. For routine oil conditioning of a running machine, the smaller SHS-PFT-30 filtration trolley is the right tool.
